DOMESTIKA COURSE – ENGLISH CALLIGRAPHY – SHOSHI ON THE GGs AND NOT WINNING!

No, don’t worry, I’m not a betting lass… just had a rather unsuccessful session in the studio!

Warm-up

A few variations of spirals and beauty lines today. This warm-up was the most successful outcome of today’s session.

Aternative G

The next item on this particular video was the alternative G, with a long tail going down into the descender line.

Somehow I really struggled today – I think I was tired, and lacking in concentration. I had quite a few mishaps and curls going the wrong way and so on. Also, for some reason the pen seemed to be picking up paper fibres, which it hasn’t done since starting the new paper.

Two versions of G

Here’s my page showing both versions of the G.

I think I prefer the long tailed version, but I expect it rather depends on the context, which one you use.

I only spent just over an hour in the studio this afternoon, and came down and had a rest till tea time. I just had a rather unsatisfying session which I didn’t particularly enjoy. I’m not upset by this – I am sure I shall be back on track again next time. Win some, lose some.

Fascinating Shoshi! The G’s look fine to me! I’m sure all your zentangling will have stood you in good stead. I love Italic writing – we practised it over and over in my last year of Primary school. I loved doing it and practising the letters over and over again, so absorbing, calming and therapeutic. Will you be doing Italics too, I wonder?! Well done, looking forward to seeing more of your work with letters. There’s a joyfulness about it, isn’t there? X
