TIMES TABLE ART – X3 TABLE – THREE’S A CHARM
Today I completed my first artwork based on one of the Times Table charts I made recently. I have decided to add a quote or phrase representing the number to the first set, and thought a x3 table was good to start with, because it had a simple symmetrical shape.
Here is the original grid.
I created a basket-weave pattern with the intersecting lines across the centre of the design. I had to spend a long time working very carefully with my grit eraser to remove the centre lines after I’d drawn the ribbon edges. Much of this disappeared later anyway but no matter!
I drew all the detail with pencil first and then inked it over with permanent black fineliners, and I used a combination of Amazon Basics and Faber Castell Polychromos coloured pencils to add the colour. The final touch was to add some gold with my fine gold Posca marker, and some stippling in the bottom half to add a bit of background interest to the drawing.
Here are some detail shots.
I copied the blackletter script from a book on penmanship that I bought recently.
