Neurographic Art
Chi Rho Tree of Life
I decided this picture needed a few more finishing touches, so I added some more lines to the tree roots, and also emphasised the shape of the cross a bit more, by adding some more brown colouring. I think it looks better now.
Here it is beside the previous version, for comparison. The finished one is on the right.
My friend emailed me today and said, “My jaw dropped. It’s incredible.” I am so glad she likes it!!!
Doodle Art
The other day I cut some old reject watercolours of my hubby’s down to size. A few years ago he threw away a whole lot of his rejects, and I rescued them from the bin, because the backs were blank and could have been painted on, and some of the fronts actually provide some interesting starting points for designs, especially when cut down to provide abstract backgrounds. Here are a couple of fragments of some buildings – unfortunately I wasn’t able to lift the paint from these but if I find I can’t make use of them, I can always use the backs which are blank.
The other two fragments I’d cut down were a lot more promising.
Doodle Art 1
I had already started adding lines and a bit of colour to this one before photographing it. The different areas of colour wash provided a starting point for adding some lines. I added colour using Tombow Dual Brush markers and blending out the colour with a wet brush.
The finished design – detail added mainly with Staedtler fineliner markers, with a bit of Tombow for good measure.
Doodle Art 2
I thought this one was ideal as a starting point.
Adding lines.
I forgot to take any more photos bfore I’d finished it.
The two Doodle Art pieces together.
They are about the right size to paste into my little leather art journal, which I haven’t used for several years – definitely time to add some more material!
This doodle art is great fun to do, and I’m looking forward to doing some further pieces probably on a largerscale – it’s hard to work on these approximately A6 sized pieces.
Kitties
Our two girlies are spending a lot of time asleep at the moment as the weather is cold and they aren’t going out in the garden much at all. Here they are, sharing the same air.
Later, doing a bit of synchronised sitting on my hubby’s lap.
They turned out surprisingly lovely! I thought, no way can you do much on top of them but whoosah! Major transformation into really stunning artworks. I love the colours, the vibrancy and organic feel to them.
I have set time aside to do have a go at some neurotrophic art this weekend.
I have also fallen to the seductive sirens of…. Leather-effect Fimo … can use embossing folders to give surface detail and interest… overlay with decorative bits, embed beads… see You Tube for fimo/polymer clay/leather effect fimo journals. I have a plain Sakura drawing book, smaller than A5 that could do with dressing up.
Maybe you’ll be inspired, too! There are no limits to creative expression and your talents will accommodate new media very easily!
Love the kitties and your ever loving and obliging husband! No outfit complete without cat hair, eh?! Ha ha
Thanks for interesting blog and a window in to shoeshine world!
Neurotrophic!
Sorry shoshi
I am trying to correct to neurographic and auto correct is being very officious and autocratic and refusing!
It also tried correcting shoshi to… shoeshine!
Omg. You’ll be desperate to get rid of me… like Columbo… just one more thing… it did change shoshi to shoeshine world! Apologies!
Ps love the way both cats have their paws crossed!
Dear Elly… never apologise for the number of comments! I love hearing from you so please keep them coming! (BTW I love Columbo… “Just one more thing” lol! My hubby and I always laugh at that!) Also Shoeshine really made me smile too! I love auto-correct. It comes up with some real funnies at times.
So glad you like the art! I’ve just uploaded a new post with some fun experiments with new media.
The Fimo/leather thing sounds fun and I must look into this.
So many lovely things to do and not enough time in the day to do them. x
