My new drawing book

A couple of days ago, my new drawing book arrived. It is a Rhodia Webnotebook, A5 landscape. It has a hard cover with a gorgeous soft smooth surface, in stylish black, with the Rhodia logo discreetly embossed on the front. The corners are rounded, and it is kept closed by an elastic strap attached to the back cover. This book is also available in A4 and A6 sizes, in both portrait and landscape formats.

The endpapers are plain black, and the book has a black ribbon bookmark.

There are 96 90-gsm pages of beautifully smooth ivory coloured paper, which is designed to prevent bleed-through with ink drawings. It is beautifully made, with stitched binding. While the pages do not lie completely flat, the book remains open at any page. I think it will be possible to make double-page-spread drawings across the binding.

Inside the back cover is an expandable pouch for loose papers etc. Even though it expands quite a bit, I don’t think you could put much into it or the book wouldn’t close, but it’s a nice additional touch.

This book is of French manufacture, and is so stylish and simply reeks quality! With its minimalist black and cream, it is going to be ideal for mostly black ink drawings, and I can’t wait to get started. I just hope I can do it justice, and turn what is already a work of art into something even better!

Yesterday I did my first drawing as the title page of the book.

The paper is lovely to draw on. Unfortunately it does show through on the other side very slightly – no actual bleed through but just visible – perhaps because there is a lot of intense black on this drawing. Maybe when I draw on it it won’t be noticeable.

A new drawing book is always a treat – that one looks lovely and your first page definitely does it justice. xx Jo
