WATER DROPLETS IN GRAPHITE

It’s been a while since I did anything in my Coptic-bound sketchbook. I was browsing Pinterest yesterday and came across a YouTube video demonstrating how to draw water droplets on lined paper, and thought I’d give it a go.

The artist did the whole demonstration at an angle, unfortunately, and it wasn’t until I’d finished following along that I realised that the angle of my droplets was not correct. I had to do quite a bit of adjustment in an attempt to get the shadows right. It’s not perfect, but for a first attempt it’s not too bad.

The artist used some blue coloured pencil in his drawing but I decided to stick to plain graphite.

I used my Faber Castell matte graphite pencils and love the utter darkness of the 14B!

What intrigued me about this drawing was how the droplets distort and magnify the lines on the paper. I definitely want to do some more drawings like this, either of water, or glass – transparency and reflection fascinate me and I want to perfect my skills in drawing them.
