ONLINE ART COURSE – EYE 3
Today I drew the third of four eyes in the Graphite module of the online art course.
This was the first one where the teacher left us to our own devices, assuming that by now we would have enough knowledge and experience to do the drawing without having our hands held!
I can’t say I am 100 percent happy with this. I struggled with it quite a bit and it took me far longer than anticipated. The reference photo shows an eye looking up and to the right in the picture, but mine doesn’t quite manage this. I don’t think I got the angle exactly right.
After I’ve finished this project, drawing the remaining eye, I may have another attempt at this one to see if I can improve upon it.
Here are Eyes 1-3 completed.
The other thing I didn’t get quite right was the placing of the drawing. I started it a bit too high up, which meant that I didn’t have enough room for the eyebrow, which is a bit lower than in the reference photo, and not quite as thick. The eye is also a bit larger than the first two.
Going solo is bound to be a bit daunting at first. I’m hoping to do a bit better with Eye 4, and once this module is complete and we have a rest week, I’m definitely going to practise drawing a few more things from scratch, following in the footsteps of the author of my hubby’s book on sketching – observing and drawing various objects around the house, and perhaps making some copies of parts of paintings from the history of Western art.
Practice is definitely the way forward! See my first post on this online art course for the teacher’s analogy of the ice. Mine is definitely still ice, at about -19 degrees!
Wow Shoshi these eyes are truly amazing, you really do have a gift for drawing, you’re a natural. Your shading is excellent and it seems that you have a natural flair for the graphite.
Looking forward to see where this course takes you and how it influences your creativity over all. Well done!
