KURETAKE COMBINATIONS – SMOKY BRUSH PENS AND GRAPHITE WATERCOLOURS

After a busy day and an afternoon struggling with figures in the accounts, no more time or energy for a studio session. I watched a DVD instead, and while doing so, I tested my new Kuretake brush pens with their graphite gansai tambi paints. I knew they would go together well.

I added some fine lines with a Staedtler fineliner for a bit more detail. The sketch book paper stood up pretty well to quite a bit of water. If I had not glued pairs of pages together, it would have seeped through and ruined the art work on the previous page. I don’t think one gets quite the same blending ability and washes on this paper as one would on watercolour paper, but the result is quite pleasing.

I shall be interested to try these new pens in combination with the ArtGraf Tailor shapes. Also, a while back, I created some lovely granulating watercolours by combining different watercolours with Daniel Smith Lunar Black which is highly granulating, granulating medium and salt. As well as introducing some granulation, the colours with the Lunar Black were also made more muted and smoky, whch is a lovely effect.
