ISLAMIC ART ALBUM – THIRD PAGE – TEZHIP 2
Another Tezhip to face the page with the first one. (“Tezhip” is the Turkish word for illuminated art – artwork with gold).
As before, I used my gold gouache paint, and Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolours for this. I followed the same tracing method as before and had no problems transferring the design to the page.
Since I did not do so for the previous pages, I thought I would provide a few “work in progress” photos this time, to show how the design progresses with the addition of each new colour.
Here is the design, together with the tracing, after I had added the gold. You can see that in the upper section, it is the background which is gold, and in the lower section, the detail.

You can see how very fine the brush is.
To co-ordinate with the previous page, and also in contrast with it, I have decided to choose red for the main colour, and blue for the accents. The next photo shows the red added to the background in both sections.

To complete the day’s session, I added blue to the borders.

Today I completed the tezhip with the addition of a border.

The final touch was to cut the edge of the page to an irregular shape and distress it with inks.
