I approached a painter and decorator in April after the new loo was installed, but he was unable to begin until now because he was so busy, and needed to take advantage of the good weather to complete outdoor work. This is how the loo has looked for the past three months.
He came on Friday 19th July to begin the work, accompanied by a young assistant. They made a good start, pulling off all the old wallpaper which had several layers of paint on it. This dislodged quite a bit of the plaster underneath.
They repaired that, and also cut a piece of plywood to fill the recessed panel on the inside of the door (not photographed). This is to make a flat surface to apply wallpaper.
At the end of day 1, the plasterwork was complete, and he also boxed in the rather unsightly pipe which ran down beside the window to supply the new loo. It all looked a lot neater after that.
When they arrived on Saturday 20th, they sized the wall, and once that was dry, they began applying the lining paper.
There was a small piece of wall on the right hand side of the window that had no dado, and he fixed a short length to fill the gap. The profile is not the same, but you really don’t notice the difference, and it will be even less noticeable after it is all painted.
By the end of day 2, the room was looking very much tidier and brighter.
They are returning on Monday when they will begin the wallpapering proper. The results are going to be surprising, dramatic and fun for such a small room! Watch this space!
