ONLINE ART COURSE – FIGURE STUDIES – FIGURE 2

I really struggled with this one! The envelope technique, whereby you draw a five-sided shape around the figure before blocking in the main components of the drawing, is very difficult, and even when I think I’ve got it right, it turns out not to be! This time I was quite well on with the drawing before I discovered that it wouldn’t join up in the way it should, and I had to erase a lot of it and re-do it. The angles can be very deceptive, however hard you try to get them right.

Here is the first stage of the drawing, this time from a photo of a guitarist-busker. Lots of foreshortening in this one, and I found the guitar quite difficult to draw, especially as it was pretty dark over to the left and it was difficult to see much detail.

Anyway, I finished it in the end, and was more or less satisfied with it, but I think I did figure number 1 a bit better. Here’s the finished result.

Onwards and upwards! I shall attempt the final drawing, maybe tomorrow afternoon if I have time. It is of an accordion player and it looks reeeaaally difficult!!

New lap desk – on the floor!

Today I decided to try the new desk on the floor. I put my wheelchair cushion in the floor, and another cushion to go under my knees, my blanket over my legs for warmth, and propped my back against the settee. The new desk went over my legs and I was able to raise the height and adjust the slope so that it was really comfortable. I was a couple of hours working on the drawing, and felt no fatigue from sitting in this position. I think this is the answer.

The laptop was on the settee behind and to the right of me, and I had the mouse on the desk. The laptop is connected to the TV so I watched the course videos on the big screen, and was able to pause and resume easily with the mouse on the desk. I actually had more room for things on the floor as well, because they were within easy reach, and I could surround myself with everything I needed! Very satisfactory indeed.
