JUNK JOURNAL – MAKE A JOYFUL NOISE PART 10

A fairly short post this time (“Thank goodness!” you all chant) – adding a detail to one of the pages made from the wrapping paper that is red on one side and brown on the other.

Choccy Bickie Tea

Tom’s Studio, a site where I bought some calligraphy pen nibs a while back, put in a sample of one of their teas with the parcel. I was really intrigued by this and absolutely loved the tea, so I have now placed two orders for this! It is called Choccy Bickie Tea and it tastes really chocolatey! It is genuine tea with cocoa nibs (nibs! – from a site that sells pen nibs haha!) and some other natural flavours like vanilla. I add a little stevia to increase the sweetness a bit, and drink it with my home-made almond milk. It is so delicious! The little teabag and its packaging are all compostable too which is great.

I decided to feature this in my album. I was careful to trim the top off the teabag envelope with scissors rather than tearing it, and made a finger notch. I couldn’t use one of the actual teabags as it is very small and pyramid-shaped, so I found one in my teabag stash, which I had previously decorated with a swirl of bleach, and filled it with some gold sequins of various sizes and designs, and a few gold gilding flakes. I glued the top closed with a bit of gold florist’s mesh (very hard to stick down!) which also enclosed the end of some gold embroidery thread.

I cut an image of the biscuit and some text from another envelope and attached them either side of a piece of black cardstock folded over. I glued this closed, capturing the other end of the gold thread.

Also trapped inside the folded black card is a small magnet. I glued its counterpart onto the deer page (the other side of this page), concealing it underneath the paper ruffle. When you drop the little tag onto the page it snaps into place on the magnet with a satisfying little click.

This is truly a mixed media project – you can still smell the chocolate from the teabag envelope! How long the smell will last, I don’t know… but it all adds to the fun!

This element doesn’t have any connection with the sewing machine image at the top of the page apart from the black-and-white colouring of both elements. I really like this red packaging paper and wish I had more of it. It makes a great background.
