JUNK JOURNAL – MAKE A JOYFUL NOISE PART 16

Continuing to work on the second signature of the album.

The second folio

I’ve bundled together three smaller pieces to form the second folio rather than treating them as individual ones.

The dark translucent page forming the outer layer of this series is a paper I created some time ago, in an attempt to make DIY rice paper. It isn’t actually anything much like real rice paper, but it is very crinkly and grungey. It is created by making a skin with tissue paper and PVA glue as far as I remember – I think with tea dye. I have had this paper hanging around for so long and wanted to use it. The white lacy stuff is an attempt to create my own version of some fancy lacy Japanese paper I got from Paperlogy. Gorgeous stuff but pricey. It took me ages to make this page, using glue and cotton fibre, and again, it’s not much like the real thing. It has loads of texture and is quite thick. It may be different from the genuine Japanese paper but the effect is pleasing. The final page is a recent piece made with napkin and starch glue – very thin and crinkly and translucent.

This is how they will be layered in the signature.
