INVASION OF THE KILLER COURGETTES!
Recently, our lovely next-door-neighbour gave us one of her weird courgettes. She grows a lot of vegetables and is always giving us lovely fresh produce, amongst which are various varieties of courgette. Her grandchildren always fall about laughing when they see them, and think a lot of them are really rude! (You get the picture…)
Anyway, the one she gave us made me laugh, and got my imagination going.

I said it looked like a flying saucer, and those bumps all around it ought to have flashing lights on them! I said that if I cut it open, I wouldn’t be surprised if a whole lot of little green men fell out. She said, “You’re mad!” I had to agree – but it gave me an idea for a thank-you card for her for all her generosity.
This is the result.
Invasion of the Killer Courgettes

On the back I put this little logo.

This card is in the style of those classic 1950s sci-fi movies which were so bad that they always took the “B-movie” slot in the cinema show, and earned the name of “the killer bees.”
How I made the card
I manipulated the photo of the courgette in my photo editing program (Serif PhotoPlus – an ancient program now unavailable but I’ve been using it for years and love it – it is better than Photoshop Elements in my opinion). After this I opened it in another ancient Serif program, PagePlus (desktop publisher) which enables you to work with text and images in frames that you can move around. I added the image of the frightened woman and manipulated the text in the program, and also added the background and the yellow light rays. I did the same for the logo on the back of the card.
Mad? Probably. Fun, though! I hope she enjoys it. It’s to go with the little gift I made for her out of some of the cereal box liners she gave me.
By the way, the killer courgette was delicious! I chopped it and steamed it with some sage.
