ISLAMIC ART ALBUM – TEZHIP WITH INTERLOCKING CIRCLES

A few weeks ago I drew another Tezhip design for my Islamic Art Album and got as far as transferring the tracing to the page. I then went over to begin work on the second signature of the album which contains geometric designs, for a change of scene. Today I returned to that Tezhip and painted it to complete it. I didn’t take any intermediate photos but the principle of tracing and transferring the drawing was the same as previously.

This design is based on one I found on Pinterest, and consists of two interlocking circles and some biomorphics. I chose a cool colour scheme, mostly blues and green, and painted the flowers in pink. In all cases I used my Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolours which are almost like gouache in that they are quite opaque. As before, the gold is gouache. In this design, the entirety of the background is gold, but as usual the photos don’t do this justice.

Some detail shots.

I have one more blank page to fill with an Arabesque design in the first signature, and there are several more blank pages in the second signature which consists of geometric patterns.
