I had another session in the studio this afternoon and completed two more page spreads for the second teabag mini-album.

Pages 6 and 7.

For page  6 I found a nice stained teabag to stick down with soft matte gel medium, as a background for three more butterflies. These were coloured with a combination of Tombow Dual Brush Marker in blue, watered down and applied with a brush, and coloured pencil, which was also used to add the shadows. The veins and other detailing were done with fine sepia and sanguine archival pens.

Page 7 was another where I didn’t want to cover the background – I love the random patterns created by the Distress Oxides – so I merely outlined some of the shapes, this time using one of my new grey archival pens. The emphasis in this book is certainly more towards the blue end of the spectrum than book #1.

Pages 8 and 9.

I had some fun creating this page spread, which marks the division between the two signatures. The first photo shows the work in progress.

I cut up some teabags so that I had small sheets of single layer teabag paper, and rolled and folded and trimmed them to form flowers and leaves, which I applied to the pages with soft matte gel medium.

Then I added some colour.

This was a combination of turquoise and green fluid acrylic watered down, coloured pencil, and sepia archival pen. Again, I used one of the new grey archival pens to pick out the outlines in the background patterns. These pages are quite dimensional and textured, and they came out better than I expected when I began this experiment – I’ve never tried modelling with teabags before!
